On Saturday 21st September 2024, Devon Chambers hosted its very first “Pupillage Seminar”, an all day event designed to assist students or graduates aiming to become barristers by demystifying the pupillage process, as well as demonstrate Devon Chambers’ commitment to developing the next generation of barristers.
Applicants were asked to submit a written application, and the successful 12 then invited to attend.
During the morning session, the successful applicants received talks from Jason Beal (Head of Chambers), Ryan Murray and Scott Horner on topics such as what pupillage is, how to stand out in written applications via the Pupillage Gateway and tips for interviews.
During the afternoon session, the successful applicants undertook various activities, including a quiz and written task, designed to replicate what might be asked of them in a typical pupillage process. Additionally, all applicants took part in an individual mock interview, advocacy task and CV workshop with Victoria Hoyle (Head of Family). All attendees received feedback.
The day finished with a Q&A session with Chambers’ current pupil – and soon to be tenant – Hetty Summerhayes about what life is like as a pupil at Devon Chambers. We were delighted to see such talented committed applicants and look forward to hosting another event soon.
