‘Well known for public and private children law matters’
Victoria specialises in family law with her main focus being public and private children’s law, as well as domestic violence. Her significant abilities are often publicly recognised in the Legal 500.
In public law children’s cases, Victoria has wide-ranging experience of representing local authorities, parents, children’s guardians and extended family members. She is especially sensitive to the needs of clients when representing parents with learning difficulties, mental health difficulties and drug addictions. She has experience of applications arising under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 including placement and special guardianship orders.
Victoria has particular experience of cases involving non-accidental injuries, cases where the Official Solicitor has intervened and cases involving long-standing issues of drug and alcohol abuse.
In private law proceedings, Victoria has experience of cases involving the appointment of children’s guardians under rule 16.4 and dealing with implacably hostile parents.
Victoria is regularly instructed in fact-finding hearings in private law proceedings, including serious sexual violence allegations. She represented a parent faced with allegations of rape, including anal rape, in which cultural differences were an important aspect. Her previous criminal law practice is particularly important in cases involving domestic violence or where there is police disclosure.
Victoria is experienced in dealing with leave to remove from the jurisdiction cases, having represented parents both seeking and opposing leave to remove.
Victoria not only provides an excellent service for clients, who are often very vulnerable, but also for the solicitors who instruct her. She understands the need for solicitors to be immediately informed of the outcome of court hearings. She always promptly provides very detailed attendance notes after court hearings to ensure her instructing solicitors are fully aware of all discussions and decisions at court so that there is no delay in cases moving forward.
Victoria is regulated by the Bar Standards Board.
