Instruct a barrister under the Public Access Scheme

A simple overview

Members of the public and businesses can go directly to a barrister and ask for help. That help may simply be asking for advice but often includes assistance with drafting documents and speaking on your behalf in court.

Barristers are specialist lawyers who deal with all types of disputes. Many cases do not require a solicitor. This means that going directly to a barrister is very good value for money.

We understand that the thought of going to court or before a tribunal can be a daunting process. We aim to make getting help from a barrister as easy as possible.

How it works

Step 1

Contact Rachael Duchnowski at Devon Chambers on 01752 661659. Rachael will ask you a few questions about the matter that you want help with.

Step 2

You will be emailed an initial enquiry form for completion, which will then be emailed to the relevant barrister once returned. Alternatively, complete our initial enquiry form here.

Step 3

Once the form has been reviewed by the barrister, you will be contacted within 48 hours and informed whether they can take on your case.

Step 4

If the barrister decides they are appropriate for your matter, a one-hour conference will be organised, at a mutual time and date, where further consideration of your matter will be discussed in more detail. The conference fee will depend on the barrister’s seniority. Please see a list of the conference fees below. At this point, we will inform you of the fee for the work the barrister will complete for you.
