Devon Chambers at the 28th annual regional Bar Mock Trials

The Regional Heat for the Young Citizens Bar Mock Trial took place on Saturday 10th November 2018 at Plymouth Crown Court. Eight schools prosecuted and defended in mock Crown Court trials from which Truro and Penwith College emerged as the eventual winner.

Scott Horner, Emma Cross, Althea Brooks, Danielle Metters and Holly Rust volunteered over several months to mentor the students as they prepared for the competition. Joanna Martin QC and Rupert Taylor made up one half of the judging panel alongside His Honour Judge Johnson and His Honour Judge Carr, Honorary Recorder of Truro.

Maddalena Goldin, Programmes Coordinator of Young Citizens, worked tirelessly to make sure the day progressed well and was enjoyed by all. She explained that the competition “allows the students to experience the law first hand; and the judges and barristers to remember why they are so passionate about their job”.

Emma Cross will mentor Truro and Penwith College in their preparations for the final in Edinburgh next March. Devon Chambers looks forward to working with Young Citizens again.
