Althea joined Devon Chambers as a pupil in October 2017 and accepted an offer of tenancy commencing in October 2018. Before coming to the Bar, Althea had a career in the publishing industry, running a small publishing services business and working as a publisher and editor for major international publishing houses.


Althea is a Grade 2 prosecutor on the Crown Prosecution Service Advocacy Panel. She has appeared on behalf of the Prosecution in magistrates’ courts all over the South West, and has also represented a number of defendants. She has progressed to appearances and jury trials in the Crown Court for the CPS, Probation Service, and for the defence. Althea has experience conducting trials involving young and/or vulnerable witnesses. Her manner is particularly sensitive when speaking to and examining complainants of domestic abuse at court.


Althea accepts instructions for both public and private children law matters and has appeared in all stages of proceedings, representing parents and local authorities. Her confident and approachable manner helps put clients at their ease. Having represented parents with learning difficulties, she has experience of adapting her communication style where necessary. Her experience as a criminal practitioner makes her well equipped for fact-finding hearings. Althea prides herself on providing detailed attendance notes and is always mindful of the importance of communicating outcomes to her instructing solicitors, as well as filing orders in good time.


Althea is an ADR-ODR International accredited civil and commercial mediator. She deploys her negotiation and mediation skills to ensure positive outcomes for parents at court, often facilitating consent orders which are child-focussed and satisfy both parties.
